How Close do Grow Lights Need to Be to Plants?

When you are just getting started with hydroponic growing, you’ll likely wonder how close should grow lights be to weed plants and other plant types. Though there can be some variance between how high to hang grow lights based on the grow light type, in many cases, around 12” inches above your plants is the best spot. If you have chosen fluorescent grow lights, 12” is likely the sweet spot for your plants. Other lighting options such as LED grow lights, a range between 12”-18” may be appropriate.

Knowing the type of lights you have purchased, and the unique needs of your plant are important when considering how far should my grow light be above my plants. Are Grow Lights Difficult to Hang?

Once you’ve determined how high your grow lights need to be, you’ll want to ensure they are installed properly within your grow tent. Most grow lights are very easy to use and, in many cases, can be easily placed in the grow tent at the appropriate height.

Which Grow Light Option Should I Choose?

There are many different types of grow lights available to choose from. Though all types of grow lights will help you to successfully grow hydroponically, some types have added benefits, such as being cost-efficient to operate while producing little heat when on. CMH grow lights, and HPS grow lights are just two of the available grow light options that might be right for you.
